How to build the trust of your employees in a time of crisis?

Updated: Feb 11

Have you ever felt that your team wasn’t quite with you? Do you remember the look that says, ‘You wouldn’t do what you’ve just told me to do’? Sadly, these are common experiences, and when things are tough, we need to guard against them even more. And things are tough now. Really tough. It’s hard running a business when the world is in lockdown. It’s going to be hard as each economy slowly returns to something like normal.

In order to make sure the people you work with feel like they are cared for, you will have to constantly listen to what they have to say. Really listen to their pains and needs. As long as you take care of your employees, they will take care of your business. You do remember that famous quote by businessman Richard Branson, right? ‘Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your clients.

Interestingly enough, at the heart of your success is going to be the issue of hygiene. These are the interesting times we live in. Maybe your state will insist on masks everywhere. Maybe social distancing will become permanent in some industries. But hygiene and keeping your employees safe will always be at the top of the agenda. And workplace routines must be rigorous.

Rob Armour, MD of Kingly Ltd, has first-hand experience of this: “We decided we’d do everything possible to keep going. Apart from expanding and re-purposing a large part of our production line, we instituted incredibly strict hygiene rules. Every week we perform a deep clean of the factory. Every day all door handles, doors, tables and other surfaces and machinery are wiped clean with disinfectant. High-traffic shared areas are cleaned more than once a day. Because of this intensive cleaning and focus on hygiene, our Sales Staff remain at the office and production is at full capacity.”

But, Rob concedes, it would not be possible for every business to execute similar plans so ruthlessly. “Not all buildings are easy to clean and not all environments make it easy for large workforces to follow best practice. It’s really hard, especially in a large office or factory, let alone in hospitality.” And, even if your workplace routines are rigorous, there’s always going to be occasional doubt about individual workstations. And with doubt comes insecurity and from that follows unhappiness and a workforce that feels vulnerable.

However, Sofia-based Kingly Ltd. has just the thing to give your employees the gift of trust and confidence and make them feel safe: custom, branded facemasks and individual hygiene packs. The carefully chosen contents include Hygienic 65% alcohol cleansing wipes, 30ml bottle of deep clean disinfectant surface cleaner, a pair of nitrile gloves, 70% Isopropyl alcohol swab/wipes, Soap bar and a liquid soap sachet.
